An RSM/EVM Flow/Heat Transfer Model Applied to Pre-Transitional and Turbulent Boundary Layers

2010
*† An eddy viscosity model for the turbulent mixing of thermal energy is used to complement the MARV Reynolds stress model. The Reynolds stress model governs the (bypass) transition of the boundary layer velocity profile and provides turbulence properties for the calculation of an eddy viscosity used in the energy equation. The model is applied to a high turbulence turbine cascade, flat plate transition in favorable pressure gradients, and stagnation line heat transfer. Both the data and the model show turbulent enhancement of heat transfer prior to the increased skin friction due to transition. Nomenclature
