Towards Integrated Resonant and Interferometric Sensors in Polymer Films

Abstract Integrated ring resonators and Mach-Zehnder interferometers are sensing schemes utilizing the interaction of the evanescent field with liquid or gaseous substances surrounding the sensor. Using different simulation software programs, waveguide properties such as single-mode behavior and mode profile are investigated and different loss mechanisms and their impact on the sensor design are discussed.
