PURPOSE: To provide a multi-axis numerically-controlled machine and a machining method having larger degree of freedom on the selection of a tool passage which is capable of obtaining high machining accuracy in a short machining time for a surface to be machined, and on the selection of machining parameters. CONSTITUTION: Rotary tools, i.e., a grinding wheel 3 and a workpiece holder 4 are arranged on a frame 2, and the workpiece holder 4 is mounted on a carriage 7 through a spindle. The carriage 7 is guided by a highly precise needle rail 12. The grinding wheel 3 is assembled with a carriage 16, and the carriage 16 is guided by a highly precise needle rail 17. The grinding wheel 3 is carried by a support element 23, i.e., a cylindrical barrel, and coupled with one end of a spindle 25. A motor 13 is installed for the carriage 7, and a motor 36 is installed for the support element 23. COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO
