Structure and synthesis of a flavoprotein with covalently bound FAD

In d-6-hydroxynicotine oxidase, FAD is covalently linked to the apoprotein. A flavin-free protein isolated from non-induced cells was shown to be the precursor of the enzyme. Covalent coenzyme attachment is suggested as a post-transcriptional mechanism of enzyme differentiation.
