A kinetic study of electrochemical lithium insertion into vanadium pentoxide in molten dimethylsulfone at 150°C

1990
Abstract The kinetics of the electrochemical insertion of lithium into vanadium pentoxide V 2 O 5 to form the corresponding bronze Li x V 2 O 5 (0 x + ions in Li x V 2 O 5 is found to be in the range 10 −9 cm 2 s −1 , and the partial lithium ion conductivi ty σ Li in the order 10 −5 Ω −1 cm −1 . The trends in the variations of the chemical diffusion coefficient D Li versus x have been correlated to the thermodynamic and structural properties of the lithium bronze Li x V 2 O 5 which has allowed us to suggest the existence of two one-phase regions for the composition ranges 0 x ≲0.3 and 0.4≲ x ≲1, and of a two-phase region for the narrow lithium content 0.3≲ x ≲0.4.
