First Attempt to Characterize Neoproterozoic Stromatolites at Chapada Diamantina (Brazil) by Geophysical Methods

2015
Since microbialites can be important reservoir rock, it is important to understand the paleoenvironmental conditions that favour the formation. Nevertheless, few studies have provided a detailed understanding of the strong lateral heterogeneity of these reservoirs and their complex development using near surface geophysical methods. The aim of this research is elucidate the internal architecture of a well exposed colonial stromatolite bioherms located at the Chapada Diamantina basin NE Brazil. Electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) sections were acquired in order to parameterize their geophysical signatures.
