Development of excavator simulator and characteristic of operator

To investigate the characteristics of an excavator operator, an excavator simulator was developed. 8 screens surrounding the operator give both front and back images. The motion base gives the operator a sense of motion. With this simulator the operator characteristics were measured. For most times and frequencies, the operator looked at the bucket, and could not respond properly to the target apart from the bucket.
