Structure and magnetic properties of exchange-coupled Co-CoPt nanocomposite thin films

Co 100-x Pt x alloy thin-films were produced to investigate structural transformation during thermal annealing and ensuing magnetic properties of the thin films. Maximum coercivity of 7000 Oe was obtained with Co 61 Pt 39 annealed at 700 °C due to precipitation of the CoPt intermetallic compound. We also observed the exchange coupling between Co and CoPt and the composite film acted as a single phase system despite consisting of Co and CoPt grains.
