CCD camera readout system developments for HEP experiments at CERN

1991
Two current developments in charge coupled device (CCD) camera readout for HEP detectors are reported. The first one, to be used in a fixed target experiment, can be configured for a megapixel device (frame transfer, single field). It features a detachable sensor head, with high-speed readout via multiple ports, a controller, and a data compactor implemented in VMEbus. The camera is designed for interfacing to the Massive Parallel Processor Computer (MPPC). The second development consists of a system of 72 CCD cameras for the scintillating fiber tracker in the neutrino oscillation experiment. In this case, the CCD is a frame transfer, memory zone device with fast clear implemented using antiblooming control. The readout is done using a commercially available image processor in VMEbus. An outline of the data acquisition system is given. >
