Spontaneous pregnancies after in vitro maturation treatment in two polycystic ovary syndrome patients

2012
Women with polycystic ovary syndrome who need IVF are at increased risk for ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Immature oocyte retrieval, and subsequent oocyte in vitro maturation (IVM), is an alternative that does not bear such a risk. We report two cases of spontaneous conception in women with polycystic ovary syndrome-related anovulation, who did not conceive after an IVM treatment. In both patients, spontaneous ovulation and conception occurred within 4 months after the IVM treatment. We hypothesize that this is a beneficial side effect of the ovarian puncture, comparable to the effect of ovarian drilling.
