CARACTERIZACIÓN SELECCIÓN DE LOCALIDADES DE PRUEBA PARA RESISTENCIA A LA ENFERMEDAD ROYA PARDA DE LA CAÑA DE AZÚCAR EN LAS CONDICIONES CHARACTERIZATION AND SELECTION OF AREAS FOR TESTING RESISTANCE TO SUGAR CANE BROWN RUST DISEASE CUBAN CONDITIONS

Con el objetivo de caracterizar y definir las localidades de pruebas de resistencia a la roya parda se realizaron experimentos en 6 localidades del pais. Se estudiaron 11 cultivares y 6 patrones de resistencia. Se analizaron las variables climaticas durante el periodo en cada localidad y se realizaron evaluaciones en diferentes edades de la planta, numero de las hojas; teniendo en cuenta la cantidad de pustulas, largo de la pustula mas frecuente, tamano de la pustula mayor y porcentaje de area ocupada por estas pustulas. Los datos se analizaron estadisticamente. Se comprobo el comportamiento diferencial de las localidades y la importancia de la humedad relativa y las temperaturas en la manifestacion de la enfermedad. Todas las localidades resultaron ser importantes, aunque existe similitud entre Matanzas y Villa Clara y entre Camaguey y Holguin. Mayabeque y Santiago de Cuba no presentaron similitud con ninguna otra region. Estas 6 localidades pueden utilizarse para las pruebas de resistencia y para definir comportamiento de los progenitores en Santiago de Cuba, Holguin, Villa Clara y Mayabeque. ABSTRACT Some experiments were conducted in six Cuban localities, in order to characterize and define locations for testing resistance to sugar cane brown rust disease. Eleven cultivars and six resistance patterns were studied. Climatic variables were analyzed during the period in each locality. Evaluations were also carried out at different ages of the plant. Number of leaves, quantity of lesions, length of the most frequent lesion, size of the biggest lesion and area percentage occupied by lesions were recorded. Data were analyzed statistically. It was proven the differential performance of the locations and the importance of relative humidity and temperatures in the manifestation of the disease. All localities were found to be important, although there is similarity between Matanzas and Villa Clara and between Camaguey and Holguin. Santiago de Cuba and Mayabeque showed no similarity to any other region. These six locations can be used for resistance tests and Santiago de Cuba, Havana, Villa Clara and Mayabeque can be used to define parents’
