I Would Prefer to Be Eliminated Through Competition

In the last issue of College Life, no. 5 (1998), we carried in this column a "Round-up of Views in the Academic Record Discussion "from college-student enthusiasts nationwide (except Beijing). Not long ago, students of a dozen or more institutions of higher learning in the capital, including Beijing University, Qinghua University, Beijing Normal University, People's University, and the Central University of Nationalities, conducted seminars on this subject. Each of them aired their opinions on the basis of in-depth reflections on the "academic record society." Worth noting is that most of the students maintain that the existence of an academic record society is rational and beneficial and that the criterion for evaluating a person should be a combination of ability and academic records.
