Methods for Estimating and Enhancing the Military Potential of Selected Manpower Segments.

1973
Abstract : The results of interviews with 116 Baltimore city high school students during April - May 1973 are presented. Interest in joining the Armed Services (particularly the Air Force) was assessed, as well as income level and academic achievement of the predominantly Black sample. Responses of interested and disinterested students are compared. Relative to Armed Services enlistment in an all-volunteer environment, the interested group was more likely to emphasize the positive attractions of education and training, and the disinterested group emphasized the negative aspects of loss of individual freedom. A demographic methodology to select survey sites for population subgroup analyses is included. (Modified author abstract)
