SIMULTANEOUS MEASUREMENTS OF PHOTOELECTRON AND LUMINESCENCE OF BARIUM HALIDES

1998
Abstract Photoelectron and optical spectra are both important in order to know the electronic structures of solids, but they have only been measured independently in insulating materials so far. In the present experiments, simultaneous measurements of photoelectron and luminescence spectra of BaF 2 thin films were carried out. It was found that both photoemission and luminescence intensities decrease with increasing synchrotron-radiation doses, indicating the formation of radiation-induced defects. Also, the time correlation between Ba-4d photoelectrons and Auger-free luminescence photons was observed for the first time, suggesting that these two processes correlate with each other.
