Necrotizing fasciitis: a sinister surgical emergency

We report a case of necrotizing fascitis caused by streptococcus Lancefield Group A, following lower segment Caesarean section, in a previously healthy 30-year-old-woman. It reminds all clinicians of the seriousness of this skin condition, which still has an unacceptably high mortality. Survival deends on early diagnosis. Urgent surgical debridement is needed as soon as the diagnosis is suspected. The microbiological aspects are discussed
