Investigation and analysis of the risk factors for the community elderly with mild cognitive impairment

2013
Objective To investigate the risk factors of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in community elderly, and discuss the prevention and treatment countermeasures for MCI. Methods The multi-stage and multi-level random sampling method was applied to epidemiological investigation of census register the 4086 elderlies in pudong New area of Shanghai. Using the door questionnaire separately and Petersen's diagnostic standard, the elderly were divided into MCI group and normal intelligence group and analysed the risk factors. Results There were 612 patients with MCI in the elderly and the prevalence rate was 14.98%. The MCI relative risk (RR) of illiteracy suffering was 3.11, 3.92 and 5.13 times than that of the junior middle school, high school and university culture. The MCI relative risk of women suffering was 1.382 times than that of men.The MCI relative risk of 80-89 age group and more than 90 age group suffering was 2.987 and 2.146 times than that of 60-69 age group. The MCI relative risk of monthly income below 1300 yuan group suffering was 1.698 times than that of monthly income over 4000 yuan group. The MCI relative risk of diabetes group suffering was 2.756 times than that of non-diabetes group. The MCI relative risk of hypertension group suffering was 2.151 times than that of non-hypertension group.Logistic multivariate regression analysis showed that age, low education level, low pensions, diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and smoking were risk factors(P<0.05). Conclusion The prevalence of community elderly with MCI is high, which is affected by a variety of risk factors significantly, and early interventions can help to reduce the development of the disease.
