THE CALCULATION OF PROTECTED REINFORCEMENT FROM SHRINKAGE CRACKING WITH SOLUTIONS OF FRACTURE MECHANICS BEING CONSIDERED. FRACTURE OF CONCRETE AND ROCK: RECENT DEVELOPMENTS. PAPERS PRESENTED AT THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE, UNIVERSITY OF WALES, COLLEGE OF CARDIFF, SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING, SEPTEMBER 20-22, 1989

1989
In the article a method of calculation of necessary amount of reinforcement to protect the concrete element surface against formation of shrinkage cracks or of minimizing their opening has been presented. Energetical equations have been developed for the zones being extended of the drying element in which the critical energy release rate G has been considered. In order to solve these equations, investigations to determine the value of G have been made by two methods, the crack opening displacement (COD) method and the authors' own method based on the dependence derived between the spacing of cracks l-f and the parameter G.(A) For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 829348.
