Effects of ion beam and pulsed laser irradiation on Fe-Cu multilayers

1992
Abstract Metastable phase formation in Fe-Cu multilayers was studied. Laser irradiation of the multilayers results in a mixture of b.c.c. and f.c.c. phases with extended solid solubility. Ion-beam mixing causes the formation of an amorphous phase with composition between 60 and 70 at.% Fe. Different analysis techniques give evidence of both b.c.c. and f.c.c. types of short-range ordering in the amorphous phase.
