PIAGET VYGOTSKY: A DISCUSSION ON PLAY In order to provide means to relocate the Piaget-Vygotsky discussion, we analyze how both authors considered infantile play at the same historical moment. In Piaget’s study on moral development, it is evident his interest in relationships between individual and society. Such an interest will provide the irst psychological empirical research devoted to relationships between social practices and moral thinking. In Vygotsky’s work, it is emphasized the play as the beginning of the possibility of signiication on the child’s side. The passage from action triggered by perception to play as action commanded by signiication is stressed. We propose the compatibility of both programs, since we intend to demonstrate that the units of analysis used by one author are not eliminated by the other, which provides another proof to the proposed compatibility.
