Two Cases of Dogs with Infiltrative Lipomas of the Thigh Region

2011
A 8-year-old male Labrador Retriever (LR) is presented for a swelling of the lateral side of the right thigh and a 7-year-old male Beauceron for recurrence of a mass in the caudal region of the left thigh. A CT exam concludes to a lipoma or liposarcoma of the thigh with muscular invasion. Both tumours are resected after blunt and sharp dissection of the surrounding sound muscles. In the LR, an approach of the femoral diaphysis and distal femur by lateral incision allows tumour and infiltrated vastus lateralis muscle excision. In the Beauceron, approach of the caudal region of the femur by caudomedial incision allows tumour and infiltrated semimembranosus muscle resection. Two Redon’s drains are placed for continuous suctioning, before layered closure.
