Development, reliability and validity of disease knowledge questionnaire for breast cancer patients receiving endocrine therapy

Objective To develop the disease knowledge questionnaire for breast cancer patients receiving endocrine therapy and test its reliability and validity. Methods Literature review was used to design conceptual framework and initial items of each dimension of disease knowledge questionnaire for breast cancer patients receiving endocrine therapy. By convenience sampling methods, totally 286 cases of breast cancer patients receiving endocrine therapy in Cancer Hospital of China Medical University and First Hospital of China Medical University were investigated to assess the reliability and validity of the questionnaire from June to December in 2018. Results The initial questionnaire of the disease knowledge for breast cancer patients receiving endocrine treatment included 42 items. After screening, the final questionnaire included 5 dimensions and 21 items. The cumulative contribution rate of the 5 factors was 63.985%, Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.919, range of Cronbach's α coefficient of each dimension were 0.604-0.853, the sub-semi-reliability of the questionnaire was 0.882. Conclusions The disease knowledge questionnaire developed in this study has good reliability and validity, which can effectively and objectively evaluate the knowledge of breast cancer patients receiving endocrine treatment.
