Phonon Modes in Si-Ge Nano-Structures for Hot Carrier Solar Cells

A precise simulation of phonon modes in Si-Ge nanostructures was developped that can be extended to other semiconductors. The possible phonon modes in Si-Ge nano-structures are discussed and compared with the bulk crystal materials. The theoretical material design of nano-structured solar cell materials is expected to provide guidance to the experimental synthesis for new materials for hot carrier solar cells and for interpretation of defect induced modes in photovoltaic semiconductors.
