Optimal Hybrid Vehicle Energy Management and Active Damping of the Side-Shaft Oscillations

Hybrid vehicle energy management consists in determining the best powersplit of the driver torque request (given through the throttle pedal) between an internal combustion engine and one or more electric machines. This problem can be solved using optimal control techniques applied to a quasi-static longitudinal model of the vehicle. In practice, the driver torque request may generate uncomfortable oscillations due to the side-shafts flexibility. With an appropriate control law, these oscillations may be damped using the electric machine. This work focusses on the fuel efficiency evaluation of the energy management algorithm when the electric optimal torque setpoint, from the torque split, is modified by the side shaft control law.
