Calculation of Judd Ofelt parameters: Sm3+ ions doped in zinc magnesium phosphate glasses
2019
Abstract The main goal of this work to investigate the spectroscopic properties of Sm 3+ ions doped in phosphate glasses were analyzed by optical absorption and photoluminescence. A series of phosphate glasses was prepared with composition (60-x) P 2 O 5 -30ZnO-10MgO-xSm 2 O 3 where x = 0.1, 0.3, 0.6 and 1.0 mol% by melt quenching technique. The prepared samples were recorded several absorption bands from ground state to excited state with corresponding transitions. The corresponding transition were used to calculate the Judd-Ofelt (JO) intensity parameter (Ω 2 , Ω 4 , Ω 6 ) for the each glasses which follows the following trend; Ω 2 >Ω 4 >Ω 6 . The JO intensity parameters used to evaluate the spontaneous emission properties such as branching ratios, transition probabilities and radiative lifetime. From PL spectroscopy, four emission peaks at 561, 593, 643 and 699 nm corresponding to the transitions 4 G 5/2 → 6 H J (J = 5/2, 7/2, 9/2 and 11/2) respectively are observed. The branching ratios of 4 G 5/2 → 6 H 9/2 were showed the laser application.
