A long-term survival case of Marburg type multiple sclerosis successfully treated with mitoxantrone: a case report and review of literature

Abstract Background : Marburg type multiple sclerosis (MS) is diagnosed with its “acute and fulminant” clinical course. Case reports of “Marburg MS” include variety of patients with radiological findings and heterogeneous clinical courses. Case description : We present a case diagnosed with Marburg MS with frequent relapses of tumefactive lesions successfully treated with mitoxantrone. The patient was followed up for 8 years, and is almost independent in daily life. Conclusions : Mitoxantrone is one of the treatment options for Marburg MS. Here we review the previous reports of Marburg MS and propose a treatment strategy.
