An Intracardiac Pacemaker for Stokes–Adams Seizures

THIS paper is a report of the clinical application of an intracardiac pacemaker in the therapy of severe or intractable Stokes–Adams seizures associated with heart block. This is the first recorded description of such clinical use. The resuscitation of the heart in asystole has been a goal sought for many years. It has been known for a considerable time that the mammalian heart, either as the intact organ or as a strip of tissue, is sensitive to stimulation by an electric current.
