The invention discloses a manufacturing method and application of an ultra-long silver nanowire. The method comprises the following steps: preparing a polyatomic alcohol solution containing an inhibitor by taking polyatomic alcohol as a solvent; dissolving PVP (Polyvinyl Pyrrolidone) into the inhibitor polyatomic alcohol solution, and stirring till clearness to obtain a solution A; weighing AgNO3 and adding the weighed AgNO3 into the polyatomic alcohol to prepare a solution B; dropwise adding the solution B into the solution A to obtain a mixed solution; transferring the mixed solution into a hydrothermal reaction kettle, adding a trace amount of metal wires, placing the mixed solution into an incubator for reacting to obtain a reaction product after the reaction; centrifugally washing the reaction product with ethyl alcohol for three times, adding ethyl alcohol for natural precipitation, removing an upper solution, and dispersing the centrifuged product in the ethyl alcohol to obtain the ultra-long silver nanowires. The manufacturing method has the advantages of no need of presetting of seed crystals, no need of introduction of protection air, use of simple instruments, one-time adding of used raw materials, high repeatability, high stability, simple reaction product, low production cost, low environmental pollution, controllable sizes of the silver nanowires, convenience in manufacturing of silver nanowire conductive membranes, and easiness in realization of large-scale production.
