Fabrication and characterization of optical waveguide material for integrated optics by the inorganic sol-gel process

By using the sol-gel process, low-cost optical waveguides composing of GeO2-SiO2 are synthesized. A range of comprehensive characterization revealed that these waveguides with a propagation loss < 0.5 dB/cm are suitable for applications in integrated optical devices.
