A low mutual coupling MIMO antenna array with periodic crossing electromagnetic band gap

2017
A low mutual coupling MIMO antenna array is proposed by using three periodic crossing electromagnetic band gap (EBG) cells. The center frequency of the MIMO antenna array is 2.55 GHz and the distance between the two antenna elements is 15 mm. The periodic crossing EBG structure is used to reduce the mutual coupling between the MIMO antenna elements. The bandwidth of the EBG covers the operating band of the MIMO antenna array, which is verified by the HFSS. The results give a confirmation that the designed EBG cells can reduce the mutual coupling of the MIMO antenna array without affecting the radiation patterns and impedance bandwidth of the array.
