Information processor in image coding processing and method therefor

PURPOSE: To suppress the increase of a circuit scale against the increase of the number of coincidence signals to be inputted and also the increase of the number of bits of the coincidence signals as for an information processor and method in an the image coding processing. CONSTITUTION: The registers 11-17 input individually the coincidence signals indicating whether the peripheral pixel of the picture element to be coded is coincident with the reference pixel or not and then output the output signals indicating whether the peripheral pixel has the maximum value or not. A state monitoring circuit 18 monitors whether the states of the registers 11-17 are changed or not. Then the counting actions of the up-down counters of the registers 11-17 are controlled. A fact whether the maximum value is confirmed or not is decided based on the counted values of the registers 11-17.
