Transfüzyona Bağli Graft-Versus-Host Hastaliği ve Önlenmesinde Kan Işinlamanin Rolü Transfusion-Dependent Graft-Versus-Host Disease: A Role of Blood Irradiation in Its Prevention

2014
Summary The transfusion of blood and blood constituents saves lives of many people; however, it can induce fatal Graft-Versus-Host disease. The only way to prevent this disease, which is characterized by an increase in the damage of donor’s T-lymphocytes that tar get organs of the receiver, is the radiation of the blood and blood constituents with X and gamma rays. With this process, DNA damage is formed in donor’s T-lymphocytes and hence proliferation is prevented. In general, the application dose of 25-30 Gy is well accepted and this dose is enough for the inactivation of the cellular elements.
