Remembering Homer Smith

1993
Editor's Note: This Historical Archives is a particularly apt contribution, since 1992 marked the thirtieth anniversary of the death of Homer William Smith. Professor Smith was born on January 2, 1895 and succumbed on March 25, 1962. There is little doubt that he is one of the truly major figures in nephrology. His book, The Kidney: Structure and Function in Health and Disease, published in 1951 and affectionately known as "The Green Book" to a generation of renal physiologists and renal clinicians, is one of the pivotal renal texts of this century.
