Conclusions: ECG-gated MDCT can eliminate the influence of pericardial pulsation, and if a low density band is observed between LA and the tumor during atrial contraction phase, there is no tumor invasion to LA at the probability of 95%. For the purpose of image-navigation surgery this noninvasive modality may become a useful technique to evaluate esophageal cancer invasion of pericardium.
