Silence and the Arts

2020
In this chapter, some of nonverbal modes of expression are illuminated and discussed: the written word, including poetry; texture; images; music; pantomime and mime. These modes of expression are problematised in relation to pedagogical settings and silence. It is argued for that languages, in a broad sense, contain more than oral or written words, and therefore it is important that other forms of expression are acknowledged and used in school.
