On-line analysis of plutonium by energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence

An on-line energy dispersive K x-ray fluorescence analysis (XRFA) system has been developed to measure the plutonium concentration of process solutions at the Savannah River Plant (SRP). This system has consistently produced accountability quality measurements (< 0.5%) on-line in approx.40 minutes of counting time. Comparisons to an independent coulometry method show agreement within sampling and analysis precision, typically 1%. 1 ref., 2 figs., 1 tab.
