Medicinal Trees of Ayurveda

2016
Trees provide shelter and protection of numerous groups of plants and animals. Deforestation causes destruction of many species of plants and animals. Trees which come from major biotic component in the forest system are badly affected by destruction of forests. According to ICICN report (1990), rate of deforestation will lead to the loss of approximately one quarter of world species in the next 20 years. The world Conservation Union (IUCN) has published a compilation of threatened plants of the world in 1997. This publication enlists more than 34,000 vascular plant species in the threatened category, suggesting that across the globe nearly 12.5% of known higher (vascular) plants are threatened with extinction. In this book the data documented in Ayurvedic literature about useful trees (119 in number)of medicinal importance along with the reported activities along with photo plate are furnished and hope the enthusiastic readers (student/ physicians) can enrich their knowledge and help for cultivation of them through home, community and school herbal gardens.
