Allotment Procedure of Cashew Nut Trees in Bastar District of Chhattisgarh State: A Case Study

The study aims to examine the allotment procedure of cashew nut tree among the beneficiaries in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh state. Cashew nut (Anacardium occidental L) is a tropical tree crop of much importance. In India, cashew is grown in mainly Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala along with the west-coast and Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and West Bengal along the east-coast. In Chhattisgarh, it is being cultivated in Bastar, Dantewada. Kanker, Raigarh, Sarguja and Jashpur district occupying an area of 8000 ha with a production of 3.0 thousand metric tons and productivity of 460 kg/ha (raw nut).The study is based on secondary data. For the distribution of plantation area to the beneficiaries Van Upaj Samiti has been framed and on the basis of recommendation of the committee one ha. planted area has been distributed among every BPL (Below Poverty Line) families of the village which comes under plantation area in villages. Finally the planted area has been handed over to the beneficiaries for further care and maintenance of plants as well as getting income and employment opportunities out of the established plants. The ownership of land may not be transferred to the beneficiaries. The ownership of land shall be always remains with Government of Chhattisgarh. The study suggested that allotment of plants should be made to both BPL and poor APL families of the villages for better care and maintenance of plants and getting more and more income and employment opportunities to the beneficiaries of study area.
