Effects of Ageratum conyzoides in nociception and inflammatory response induced by zymosan

1998
The water soluble fraction of Ageratu m conyzoides L. (WSF) was evaluated for analgesic and anti-infla mmatory activities using zymosa n as stimulus, WSF treatment was effective to inhibit the articular inflammation, the writhing response in the abdomina l contortion test in mice and neutrophil migration into peritoneal cavity. However, neither zymosan- nor dextran-induced paw edema was affected by WSF. These results indicate that WSF possesses analgesic and anti-i nflammatory activities which seem related to an inhibition of cyclooxygenase an d of leu kocyte-dependen t inflammatory events.
