Investigation of ionization cross sections of tantalum at proton energy 1MeV ≥ E ≤ 2MeV

2021
Particle Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE) has been the subject of recurrent studies. The basic phenomenon behind this technique is inner shell ionization. In the collision of Charged particle with matter, electrons in the inner atomic shell may be excited to higher shells/subshells. They may also get completely removed from these shells. The probability that a particular shell or subshell will be ionized by the incident charged particle is defined in terms of the Ionization cross section. The present work has been proposed to calculate ionization cross sections of Tantalum (Ta) at six proton energies i.e. 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 MeV. These cross sections are calculated by the ECPSSR model. For the verification of these results, calculated data is compared with the available experimental measurements.
