Effect of volume energy release on the range of laminar gas jet

1999
A model of a constant pressure laminar jet with specified volume energy release is used to study numerically the effect of the geometry of the energy source region and of the magnitude of the energy transferred to the gas on the overall picture of the gas flow. Special attention is devoted to the influence of these factors on the range of the jet. The anomalously long range of one type of laminar flare in mixed gases, known as a rigid laminar flare, is explained. In these flares an extended, hot outer shell ensures stability of the as a whole and creates conditions for an anomalously long range for the cold gas mixture flowing on the axis.
