: Personality disorder as a diagnostic concept has developed as a result of the world-wide spread of DSM III in recent years. This article confines itself to a discussion of axis II of DSM III, that is, to the axis on which personality disorders are set out. In particular, it investigates the implications of the diagnostic concept of personality disorder for forensic psychiatry.
