A memory based meta-heuristic optimizer for optimal VAr management in power transmission system

2018
Reactive power management (RPM) of a power system is a special kind of optimal power flow for minimizing the system operating cost along with minimization of system active power loss and the generation of reactive power from all VAr sources. An evolutionary algorithm, inspired from intelligence of crow, named as Crow search algorithm (CSA) is implemented to achieve the optimal control parameter settings for optimal power flow in a existing power network. It is validated that CSA may promote to gain satisfactory outcomes compared to the other centralized technique: Particle swarm optimization (PSO) with promising convergence characteristics. Also, a comparative analysis of active power loss and operating cost has been shown in this article. The total performance of the proposed method is demonstrated through numbered mathematical strategies on IEEE 30-bus power network.
