Experimental Study of High Frequency Electromagnetic Field Penetration Through Building Material - Concrete Wall

2019
Electromagnetic shielding has been enjoying greater attention recently. On one side, it is due to the electromagnetic compatibility of electric and electronic devices. On the other, it is because of the electromagnetic effect on living organisms, a human being included. We are constantly exposed to the electromagnetic field which is why it is important to raise this issue. The proposed contribution presents the results of research into the shielding of a construction object concrete towards the electromagnetic field. Shielding is defined as shielding effectiveness. Shielding effectiveness is defined by a product of reflection and absorption of the electromagnetic field. The experiment in this contribution concentrates on measurement of shielding effectiveness and reflection of the electromagnetic field. Measured object was concrete wall 120 mm thickness composed of cement and water. Based on these observables it is possible to calculate the electromagnetic absorption which is difficult to measure.
