Growth and Yield Traits of 6 Cassava Varieties

2009
Six cassava varieties, South China 5 (SC5), South China 6 (SC6), South China 7 (SC7), South China 8 (SC8) and South China 9 (SC9), were observed in terms of growth and yield with cultivar South China205 (SC205) as the control. The results showed that the SC7 was highest in growth rate, followed by the SC6, with the SC9 being the slowest during the whole stage of growth and development. The varieties SC8, SC5, SC7 and SC6 outyielded the control SC205 in terms of fresh tuber by 24.71%, 20.63%, 10.71% and 6.76%, respectively, but the SC9 yielded lower than the control by 10.14%. As to starch content, the SC8 was the highest (30.05%), followed by the SC5 (29.80%), and these two varieties were 1.97% and 1.72 % higher in starch content than the control SC205, respectively. According to the evaluation of comprehensive traits, the best variety was the SC8, followed by the SC5, SC7 and SC6, and the poorest were SC205 (CK) and SC9.
