Material Characterization of Ceramics by Various Nondestructive Testing Methods

1989
In order both to obtain the reliability of components and to understand increasing mechanism of fracture toughness, nondestructive detection, location and characterization of microcracks less than 100 μM is an essential technology. In this report experimental results, which has been carried out in Japan Fine Ceramics Center as a project of NDI, is summarized on the detectability of various detection techniques such as Ultrasonic, X-ray, Acoustic Microscope, Scanning Laser Acoustic Microscope, X-ray CT, Neutron Radiography NMR, Electron Beam, simulated Ultrasonic and Acoustic Emission. Lastly the relation between these microcracks and fracture strength is discussed [1, 2].
