Agglomeration, network and urban development — — A study on newspaper connection network index of cities

This paper constructed the Media connectivity index using the newspaper information. It exported and tested the impact of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integration policy on regional interactions using the gravity model and DID regression test. We found that the integrated policy on Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region has significant impact on the interaction among cities. The interaction is reflected from cooperation on traffic and investment. Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integration policy has improved the overall degree of intercity linkages by 14% in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, 6.3% in the inter-city transportation and other infrastructure, and 3.2% in the inter-city investment sector. However, the impact of integration is not significant on education. In addition, by analyzing the data of listed companies in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, it can be found that the integration policy of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei has a significant effect on the investment behavior of enterprises. The media index reflects the degree of connectivity between cities. By observing the changes in the media index between cities, we can predict the behavior of enterprises between cities and the possibility of introducing policies in related fields.
