Aspects Morpho-Épidémiologiques Des Tumeurs Oculo- Orbitaires Au Chu De Yaounde - Cameroun

2014
Tumors of the eye and adnexae are many and varied. To determine histological types and epidemiological characteristics of eye and adnexa tumors encountered in hospitals in sub-Saharan Africa, in a context where existing data are mostly partial, we undertook a descriptive and retrospective study of lesions diagnosed at the University Teaching Hospital of Yaounde in the past ten years (2000 to 2010). Overall, 95 lesions were identified in 51 men against 44 women (sex ratio: 1.6). The average age of patient at the time of biopsy was 28.18 ± 20.35 years. Patients less than 10 years were most represented (24.2 %). Lesions sites were conjunctival (44.2 %), eyelid (23.2 %), orbital (14.7 %) and intraocular (17.9 %). Benign tumors (61.1 %) were more common than malignant (38.9 %) of which 13.9 % were secondary location. Inflammatory pseudo tumors (37.9 %) dominated the benign tumors, whereas retinoblastoma (37.8 %) was the most malignant type encountered; followed by squamous cell carcinoma (27 %). The Kaposi angiosarcoma (10.8 %) came
