Groundwater Dewatering Management in Urban Areas at the Coastal Plain of Israel

2021
The State of Israel has undergone extensive urbanization. Over 91% of the population lives in cities, and the pressure on the natural water resources is expected to rise significantly. Since many of the new infrastructure and high-rise residential projects at the urbanized coastal plain of Israel require large-scale dewatering plans with high pumping rate up to 500 m^3/hours, there was a need to find a sustainable solution for the large-scale abstraction operations. The changes in the regional water levels and the creation of local gradients and new flow paths that differ from the regional flow patterns call for integrated groundwater management of dewatering operations on a larger regional scale, far beyond a single project approach.
