Electric Starter System for Launching a Gas Turbine Aircraft Engine

2019
Modern trends in the aviation industry are aimed at modernizing onboard equipment and replacing mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems in favor of electrical systems. The article analyzes the starting characteristics of an aircraft gas turbine engine, and draws up requirements for the design of electrical starting devices of an aircraft engine. A variant of building starter-generator system to increase the electrification level of the aircraft’s on-board equipment, as part of the implementation of the "more electric aircraft" concept is proposed. Along with the increase in the level of electrification, there is an urgent need to increase the energy efficiency of the existing electrical equipment of the aircraft. One of the criteria for the efficiency of use of the onboard equipment of the aircraft is the implementation of multipurpose use of the onboard components and assemblies. Within the framework of this criterion, it seems appropriate to combine the starter and the generator of the auxiliary power unit in one unit.
