Determinants of Coronary Artery Disease: A Hospital-based Cross-sectional Study

2021
Background : Coronary artery disease (CAD) among Asian Indians has been found to be more severe, diffuse, and associated with severe complications and increasing mortality at a young age. Materials and Methods : A cross-sectional study was conducted to study of risk factors of CAD in patients. First case was selected randomly then further every case was selected until 300 study subjects were covered. Results : Mean age of the study subjects of CAD was studied in the present study and found to be 54.79 ± 1.146, when the data for male and female subjects pooled together. It is a progressive increase in the occurrence of CAD with age, with the peak prevalence 91 (30.33%) at 50–59 years. Out of 300 study subjects of CAD, 191 (63.67%) had high waist-hip ratio (WHR), while 109 (36.33%) had normal WHR. Conclusion : The findings of present study suggest that a number of modifiable risk factors and non modifiable risk factors are responsible for CRD such as age, family history of diseases, central obesity, and stress. Key words : Coronary heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, risk factors, waist-hip ratio
